The Chengdu Humanoid Robot Innovation Center has signed a strategic procurement agreement for 5,000 embodied AI robots, representing the largest single-supplier order in the domestic embodied AI sector to date.
The agreement was concluded on June 16, 2026, with PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation, a major state-owned enterprise, and Zhicheng Ruijin Robot Technology (Chengdu) as co-signatories. This order is a landmark signal that China's central state-owned enterprises are moving from exploratory pilots to committed, large-scale deployment of humanoid robots in industrial and infrastructure settings.
The Chengdu Innovation Center, which has been developing embodied AI platforms with government backing, will serve as the sole supplier for this contract. The deployment is expected to target heavy infrastructure, energy, and construction environments where PowerChina operates, requiring robots with robust physical capabilities and advanced spatial intelligence.
The announcement coincided with a broad rally in the A-share robot concept sector on June 18, driven in part by the Shanghai Stock Exchange's consultation on adding "Robotics" as a designated strategic emerging industry category under the STAR Market listing rules. Industrial robot leader Estun Automation surged to its daily limit, while multiple humanoid robot supply chain companies recorded gains exceeding five percent.
