Astribot Ships Rope-Drive Wheeled Humanoid T1 from RMB 89,900 on Launch Day
Astribot has unveiled its new T1 rope-drive wheeled humanoid at ICRA 2026 in Vienna, immediately initiating shipments with an aggressive starting price of RMB 89,900.

Chinese embodied AI startup Astribot (星尘智能) unveiled its new T1 rope-drive wheeled humanoid robot at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2026 in Vienna, Austria, on July 1. Breaking from the industry norm of revealing prototypes months before production, the company announced that customer shipments for the T1 began on the exact day of its global debut.
Priced from RMB 89,900 (approximately USD 12,400), the T1 represents an aggressive push to bring highly capable manipulation platforms below the critical 100,000-yuan threshold, targeting research institutions, commercial operators, and early-adopter households.
Hardware Optimization for Safe Interaction
The T1 is positioned as a more accessible counterpart to Astribot's flagship S1 model. Standing 1.53 meters tall, the new machine sheds nearly 25 kilograms of weight compared to the S1, optimizing it for environments where heavy industrial payloads are unnecessary.
Despite the weight reduction, the robot features 23 degrees of freedom and maintains a respectable single-arm maximum payload of 5 kilograms. The defining mechanical feature of the T1 is its rope-drive transmission system. Unlike rigid gear-driven joints, rope drives offer inherent physical compliance. This structure provides a mechanical "collision-release" safety mechanism, allowing the robot's limbs to yield naturally upon unexpected contact—a crucial requirement for safe operation in dynamic human environments.
At the ICRA exhibition, Astribot demonstrated this capability through live, real-world tasks, including folding clothes and executing complex teleoperation sequences.
Modularity and Continuous Operation
Astribot has designed the T1 with a focus on continuous, practical deployment. The system supports fast-swappable end-effectors (hands/grippers) and modular compute backpacks, allowing operators to quickly reconfigure the hardware for different tasks or upgrade the processing power without replacing the entire chassis.
Addressing the persistent challenge of battery life in mobile robotics, the T1 includes auto-recharging capabilities and a one-hour fast-charge system. This infrastructure is designed to minimize downtime across the robot's target scenarios, which the company identifies as scientific research, family service, commercial inspection, and light industrial sorting.
By combining a sub-RMB 100,000 price point, safe compliant mechanics, and immediate shipping availability, Astribot is challenging the protracted development cycles typical of the humanoid sector, pushing the market rapidly toward commercial deployment.
