The Mars 2020 Robotic Arm is the main robotic arm at the front of NASA's Perseverance rover, designed and built by Motiv Space Systems for NASA and JPL. The 2.1 m, five-joint arm carries the rover's turret of science instruments and tools, including SHERLOC and WATSON, PIXL, the Gaseous Dust Removal Tool, a ground contact sensor and the coring drill. It drills Martian rocks to collect core samples, positions instruments to image and analyse rock composition, and hands samples to the rover for storage. Motiv lists a 45 kg payload in Earth gravity, a 76 kg mass, under 1 mm accuracy and operation down to -135 C in Martian dust and radiation, and it also built the arm's six-axis force-torque sensor.
