HOKUSAI is MiraiKikai's layout-marking robot, which draws reference lines, shapes and text from building drawings directly onto construction-site floors. It works like a moving 2D plotter, staying in wireless contact with a Leica 3D Disto laser surveying instrument to mark with the accuracy of a skilled two-person crew. It marks to within plus or minus 3 mm with no cumulative error, covers about 20 m around the surveying instrument and runs 6 hours continuously, so marking can be done overnight for the next day's work. It is set up from its touch screen or from a PC, tablet or phone, and MiraiKikai added a drawing function in 2024.
