Walker Taishan is Shandong's first humanoid robot, built in Jinan by Youbaote, and the R2 is its current generation. At 1.7 m and 58 kg it is human-scale and light for its height, and it moves quickly for a full-size biped: 7.2 km/h, with the company training it over half-marathon distances ahead of the Beijing Yizhuang humanoid half-marathon. High-definition vision lets it identify its surroundings and walk complex terrain unaided. The working credential comes from the company's quadruped heritage in power-grid inspection: on patrol duty the robot carries 10 kg and covers 20 km in a day on a single charge. The R2 generation added a brain and a face to that endurance — it integrates the DeepSeek-V3 language model for natural dialogue, adjusts its tone, recognises human emotion and responds to it, and manages fine social gestures such as a fist-and-palm salute and a handshake alongside high-precision grasping. Youbaote's team, drawn from the CAS Institute of Automation and Shandong University, builds electric, hydraulic and electro-hydraulic legged machines, and the Taishan line carries that mixed-drive expertise into a humanoid.
