Anthropic Launches Open Standard for AI-Controlled Lab and Factory Robots
Anthropic released the Model Hardware Standard as a research preview Thursday, a specification letting any AI model discover and safely operate lab and factory hardware, tested with 16 partners including Genentech, Universal Robots, and Hugging Face.

SoftBank Robotics and Bear Robotics Launch Servi Q in Japan
SoftBank Robotics and Bear Robotics put the Servi Q delivery robot on sale in Japan, a 35-centimeter-wide, tray-carrying machine built to fit 45-centimeter aisles and drive in reverse, aimed at narrow restaurants, hotels and care facilities that standard-width robots cannot enter.

Anyverse Dynamics' K15 Robot Clears Full EU CE Certification
Anyverse Dynamics says its K15 service robot is the first embodied-AI machine to clear the EU's complete industrial CE certification suite, including the EN 18031 cybersecurity standard, as it ships roughly US$97 million worth of orders to European customers.

Agility Robotics Names New Board Directors Ahead of Its Nasdaq Debut
Agility Robotics named Merline Saintil, Derek Aberle and Pierre Gentin to its board as it prepares to go public through a merger with Churchill Capital Corp XI, assembling governance depth before Digit's commercial performance faces public-market scrutiny.

ANYbotics Gives ANYmal a Digital Badge for Secured Doors
ANYbotics has partnered with Swiss access-control group dormakaba and identification-technology company LEGIC Identsystems to let its ANYmal quadruped robot request and pass through electronically secured doors during unmanned inspection rounds, validated in a multi-week pilot at GE Vernova's Whitegate power station in Ireland, with commercial rollout planned later in 2026.

Korea Wants One Robot-Elevator Standard. The Elevator Industry Already Wrote Three.
South Korea's new special act promises a standardized way for robots to enter apartment buildings and call elevators, but Otis, KONE and Schindler already built three incompatible proprietary APIs for that exact handshake years earlier, and only Singapore has tried to write a neutral cross-manufacturer standard for it.

The Robot Safety Standard With Exactly One Author
Anthropic's new Model Hardware Standard is being sold as a safety spec for AI-controlled robots, but it launches closed, governed by one company, while the industry's actual functional-safety standard took fifteen years and a multi-stakeholder committee to write.

Tesla Skipped NHTSA's Permission Slip for a Wheelless Robotaxi. Zoox Spent Two Years Getting One.
Tesla says its wheelless Cybercab already meets every federal safety standard, no exemption needed. Zoox spent two years and accepted a 2,500-vehicle cap to win permission for the identical design. What that gap in approach actually signals about risk, not price.

Tally Passed Robotics' Toughest Safety Test. Nobody Checked If It's Actually AI.
Robotics built three real oversight tracks in 2026: UL's safety certification, ISO's robot vocabulary standard, and the EU AI Act's disclosure rule. None of them verifies whether a robot's AI claim is actually true. Tally's UL 3300 certification, NVIDIA's Jetson Orin Nano 2 launch, and Figure AI's voluntary data disclosure show why buyers, not regulators, are currently the only ones checking.

Europe Delayed the Wrong Robot Deadline
Humanoid makers are racing to collect European CE certificates, but the machinery regulation that replaces the current framework applies from 20 January 2027 and pushes any robot whose safety functions rely on machine learning into mandatory notified-body assessment. The AI Act's product deadline just slipped to August 2028; the machinery deadline did not move, and the safety standard written for legged robots is still a working draft.

The Fundamentals of Humanoid Robot Technology Explained
In July 2026 the International Organization for Standardization published a method for measuring how well a legged robot walks, and stated in terms that it is not intended for verifying safety. In the same month, the first safety standard written for machines that need active control to stay upright remained at close of comment period, unpublished and uncertifiable. A humanoid buyer in 2026 can benchmark walking performance against an international method and cannot certify safety against one. Post 1 of our humanoid series builds the foundations from the official record only: the standards bodies that define the machine, the exchange filing that defines its components under regulatory supervision, and the statistical apparatus that does not yet count it. The defining property comes from a standards body rather than a supplier. A machine with actively controlled stability requires active control in order to remain balanced and could become unstable in the absence of power. An industrial arm that loses power stops. A humanoid that loses power falls. Everything commercially distinctive about the asset class descends from that fact. The article asserts no market size, no unit forecast and no price, because no official source publishes one.
