DESCRIPTION

MISSO is a Collaborative-Robot from Meril. It is built for Medical-Assistance, Surgery. Key figures: 6 degrees of freedom.

MISSO is a fully active robotic system from Meril for total knee replacement, developed and manufactured in India. Rather than guiding the surgeon's saw, the robot itself performs the bone cuts according to a plan made on the patient's own anatomy. Before surgery, the MISSO Planner turns the patient's CT scan into a 3D model, using AI-based segmentation, automatic implant sizing and detection of implant overhang and notching. In theatre, a vision cart with an NDI Polaris optical tracking camera and a 27-inch medical-grade touchscreen tracks the bones, and a 6-axis collaborative robot arm on a mobile base carries a drill and cutting system. The arm resects the femur and tibia without cutting jigs, including peg holes and the tibial keel, at a maximum cutting speed of 50 mm/s with sub-millimetre positioning accuracy. Surgeons can check ligament gaps before, during and after resection, change the plan intra-operatively and choose full or partial cutting. Safety functions include adaptive bone tracking that stops resection if the bone moves and resumes when it is re-acquired, collision detection that stops the arm on contact with a person or object, an emergency stop and a manual guide mode. Meril classifies MISSO as an Automatic Robotic Surgical System (Class 3).
