DESCRIPTION
EMMA is a Medical-Robots from AiTreat. It is built for Others, Helping, Robotic massage / Tuina soft-tissue therapy for low back pain. Key figures: released 2018.
EMMA (Expert Manipulative Massage Automation) is AiTreat's robotic soft-tissue therapy system - its first Clinical Physical AI application - which carries out treatment parameters set by a clinician while recording delivery and safety information. A robotic arm with a purpose-built treatment head delivers Tuina-style massage; clinical sensor AI combines 3D vision for patient localisation with advanced touch sensors embedded in the robot to guide controlled contact, movement, rhythm and force, adjusting in real time to body size, shape and skin tone, breathing and slight body movements for accurate acupoint positioning within clinical safety limits. The clinician assesses the patient, sets target areas, dose and safety boundaries in an approved plan, and monitors the session on an operator interface showing body-position visualisation and treatment settings. The system has a safety state machine, independent end-effector force control, clinician override and safety logs, and has completed electrical safety, EMC, patient-contact safety and durability testing. EMMA has treated patients in Singapore's NovaHealth TCM clinics since 2018 (more than 120,000 sessions in 12 clinics by November 2025); a Mayo Clinic pilot with 20 healthy volunteers reported high satisfaction and no adverse events, and low back pain is the first focus of its China Class II medical-device registration.
