DESCRIPTION
Mech is Dexterity's flagship industrial superhumanoid - explicitly not a humanoid attempting everything, but a machine purpose-built for logistics and manufacturing work: trailer loading and unloading, palletising and depalletising, aircraft loading and unloading, and singulation. Its two arms give a 5.4 m armspan and lift 60 kg combined, 30 kg each, over a vertical reach beyond 2.4 m. A patented shoulder and a second elbow provide the extra degrees of freedom that ordinary humanoid geometry lacks. Mech has an AI-driven sense of touch and pressure which, combined with 4 kHz torque control in the arms, lets it handle boxes, parcels and polybags gently and pack them into tight spaces. The rover base moves, spins, strafes and climbs ramps on four independently steerable wheels, and packs dual vacuum pumps, an onboard supercomputer, a battery pack and up to sixteen cameras. The arms are manufactured by Kawasaki with precision motion components from HiWin, giving arm mean time between failures beyond ten years, in 0-50°C, up to 1,500 m altitude and up to 90% humidity. Mech is designed, developed and assembled in Redwood City, California, and first deployed at a Fortune 500 site for autonomous truck loading in 2022.
