This robot grinds the outside of steel pipe as the preparation step before anti-corrosion coating, and it is built around a licensed abrasive technology: Shihe cites MontiPower's grinding method, which leaves a 40-80 micron surface roughness - the profile a coating needs to key into. It drives on integrated magnetic wheels, so it follows varying curvature, and suits pipe with a curvature radius above 600 mm. A linear motion mechanism extends the grinding reach to 300 mm, and it offers single-ring and multi-ring working modes - one band around the pipe, or repeated passes covering a length. It weighs 50 kg at 650 x 450 x 450 mm, carries up to 30 kg, works at 0-12 m2/h and crosses 5 mm obstacles. A force sensor on the attachment holds constant grinding pressure, and an automatic mode runs the machine back and forth around the pipe unattended while a manual mode lets the operator set range, angle and force by hand.
