A Korean Province Just Bet US$15 Billion That Factory Data Beats Silicon Valley
South Gyeongsang Province announced on July 29 a ten-year plan to invest KRW 21 trillion (US$15.5 billion) in physical AI, the umbrella term for robots and AI systems that act in the physical world. The plan spans 55 projects through 2035 and targets 200 physical AI demonstration companies, 500 AI factories, 30 robot system integrators, 1,000 AI solution firms, and at least six AI data centers. Hanwha will build a defense-focused data center in Changwon. The province is wagering that its existing base of more than 3,000 smart factories gives it the manufacturing data that physical AI models need most.
