DESCRIPTION
WABIAN (WAseda BIpedal humANoid) is the biped walking humanoid line developed by the Integrated Mind-body Mechanism Laboratory of Prof. Atsuo Takanishi at Waseda University, first built in 1997. The research sets out to clarify the mechanism of human walking and to develop the mechanics and control systems of humanoid robots. The refined third-generation machine, WABIAN-RIII (WAseda BIpedal humANoid Refined ver. III) - the version pictured here - stands 1.88 m tall and weighs 130 kg. It walks dynamically while carrying a load in its hands, dances with a human partner, and walks in a variety of ways including sideways and turning. It can also walk while representing the emotions of happiness, sadness and anger.
