Tru-D Classic is Tru-D SmartUVC's first-generation UVC disinfection robot, launched in 2007 as what the company calls the first automated, no-touch UVC disinfection device on the market. The portable unit is wheeled into a patient room or operating room, started with a remote control and left to run from a single position, while the operator works on other tasks. Its Philips low-pressure mercury-vapour lamps emit continuous UVC, and the patented Sensor360 array measures the energy reflected back from walls, doors and ceilings to calculate how long the cycle must run for the room's size, geometry, surface reflectivity and furniture, so that shadowed areas as well as line-of-sight surfaces receive a lethal dose. Tru-D gives a reach of 16 feet (4.9 m) and rooms up to 32 x 32 ft (1,000 sq ft); a bacteria cycle averages 15-25 minutes and a bathroom 4-8 minutes, the device shuts off automatically and alerts the operator by audio or text message, and the room can be used immediately. More than ten published studies, including a randomized controlled trial, report log reductions against C. difficile, MRSA, VRE, C. auris and SARS-CoV-2, and cycle data is available through a web portal.
