ISE Theseus large under-ice autonomous underwater vehicle (Canadian DND)

DESCRIPTION

Theseus AUV is a Military from International Submarine Engineering. It is built for Exploration, Others, Research.

Theseus is a large autonomous underwater vehicle that ISE developed for Canada's Department of National Defence under the Canada-U.S. Spinnaker project, to show that long-range autonomous operations beneath Arctic ice were possible. The programme culminated in Theseus laying multiple 220 km fibre-optic cables under a 2.5 m thick ice pack in water up to 600 m deep, setting an AUV endurance record of more than 60 hours of continuous under-ice operation. Its configurable pressure hull and modular payload bay take a wide range of sensors and mission equipment, and the payload space is large enough to carry and deploy smaller AUVs. An integrated variable-ballast system lets it park on the seafloor for long periods and then resume work on a schedule or on command. The vehicle is owned by the Department of National Defence and maintained by ISE, which offers it for charter for research, technology demonstrations and subsea operations.
