DESCRIPTION

SCARABAEUS is an Agricultural-Robots from Brüggli. It is built for Agriculture, Mulching and mowing in orchards, vineyards and open land. Key figures: 130 kg.

SCARABAEUS is an autonomous, solar-powered mulching robot from Probotics, the robotics brand of Swiss manufacturer Brüggli, for orchards, tree rows and open land. It mows a 1.35 m swath with five floating mowing discs at the front, each on its own skid with a four-joint linkage so it follows uneven ground and tractor ruts, plus a lateral boom with two more mowing motors that reaches to within a few centimetres of tree trunks - mowing the tree strip that would otherwise be kept clear with herbicides. Clippings are thrown toward the tree strip as mulch, and the cut is held to about 5 cm. The robot weighs only 130 kg and runs on caterpillar tracks to keep soil compaction low; it is flat enough to pass under low-hanging branches. Instead of cameras or lidar it navigates with RTK-GNSS (Galileo, GLONASS, GPS and BeiDou), touch feelers, a compass and a gyroscope, learning the positions of trees, obstacles and fences on each run, replanning around blocked paths and stopping at a virtual geofence. Owners draw the outline in the 'my SCARABAEUS' Windows app, which shows its position; it returns to its charging station at 20 % battery. The station runs on mains or solar power and folds into a transport unit, and in solar mode the robot covers about 8 ha in 14 days. LiFePO4 batteries and brushless BLDC motors keep wear low, and front and rear bumpers, a protective skirt and foot guard make it safe to work near people.
