The RO70 is the storage robot at the heart of the STOROJET automated small-parts warehouse made in Germany by Storojet. About the size of a domestic robot lawn mower - 40 x 27.5 x 15 cm and 15 kg - it moves freely rather than on rails, navigating autonomously by barcodes printed across the shelf floors with a high tolerance for errors, and tows up to 27 kg. Fleets of RO70s are orchestrated over Wi-Fi by a central system that sends upcoming pick lists to the robots in advance: each drives to its goods carrier, docks underneath it, takes the shortest route to the next lift between shelf levels and queues at its assigned waist-height pick station, where pick-by-light shows the operator which compartment to pick from. Designed above all for low energy use and a high ratio of towing power to its own weight, the RO70 runs on LiFePO4 batteries for a full 8-hour working day, then docks itself in a charging bay on the outer lanes, where it can be serviced without stopping operation, and recharges in 3 hours; the central system plans loads and charging so enough robots stay in service in shift operation. Storojet says the robots' low price lets customers run large fleets in a small space and grow them easily, raising picking performance by 30 to 80 percent. They work at 10 to 40 C, and the housing colour and logo can be customised.
