DESCRIPTION

The PES-B, or Passive Elastic Suit-Back, is the lightest thing ULS Robotics makes at 800 grams — closer to a harness than a machine, and deliberately so. Its original S-shaped mechanical architecture generates a reactive force in real time, spreading the pressure of long heavy-load work or repeated bending away from the lower back. Like its upper-limb sibling it has no battery and nothing to charge, so where and how long it is worn are unconstrained, and its mechanical energy-storage drive gives smooth rather than stepped assistance. Beyond load support it offers posture guidance, nudging the wearer toward a safer lift. It fits wearers from 45 to 100 kg, measures 550 by 240 by 50 mm, goes on in under a minute, and is waterproof and dustproof enough for outdoor or humid conditions. Construction is polypropylene, high-strength aluminium alloy and carbon fibre.
