DESCRIPTION
Sea Dart is Leidos' compact unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV), built for flexible mission support across both defence and research work. Leidos calls the design payload-agnostic, modular and low-cost, and compatible with US Navy architectures. It comes in two sizes, 15 cm and 22 cm in diameter, and is light enough to be launched and recovered by one or two people rather than a crane or a dedicated vessel. Its open architecture is meant to accept a range of third-party systems. Leidos lists its missions as mine countermeasures, infrastructure monitoring and oceanographic research, and sells it to the US Navy and commercial customers alike. The company claims a price point 80 to 90 per cent below comparable systems, which is the explicit point of the design — making undersea autonomy scalable.
