GENE.01 is the first humanoid robot from Generative Bionics, a physical-AI company based in Genoa, Italy. It was unveiled as a concept on the main stage of AMD's opening keynote at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on 6 January 2026, where chief executive Daniele Pucci presented it alongside AMD's Lisa Su, shortly after the company announced a EUR 70 million funding round. Generative Bionics says the platform paves the way for the robot's launch in the second half of 2026. The design is built around touch. A full-body tactile skin - a distributed network of force and contact sensors covering the robot's surface - lets it feel pressure, interactions and micro-contacts anywhere on its body, and the company treats touch as a primary channel of intelligence rather than a safety layer added afterwards. Tactile, visual and force data are fused at high frequency, with part of the computation done near the sensors themselves so reactions are immediate and motion stays smooth; the company calls this idea 'body as compute'. AMD, an investor and technology partner, supplies that computing: CPUs, GPUs, embedded processors and FPGA-based platforms for vision, sensing and real-time control. Generative Bionics describes GENE.01 as the foundational design from which its future humanoids will evolve, with variants optimised for different industrial uses while keeping a consistent form, behaviour and interaction - and a deliberately Italian approach to design, where proportions, posture and movement are meant to make the robot easy for people to accept. The company publishes open libraries so the platform can scale from factories to healthcare applications, and has released a URDF model of GENE.01 on GitHub as the first preview of that open platform.
