The Four-Way Pallet Shuttle is a battery-powered robotic vehicle from Craftsman Storage Systems that stores and retrieves pallets inside high-density racking. Unlike a conventional radio shuttle, it can travel forward, backward and sideways along the rack's rail grid, so it can reach any lane on its level without dedicated aisles, and it works with pallet lifts, conveyors and robot arms under the control of a warehouse management system. The shuttle is only 125 mm high. It drives under a pallet, raises it in about 1.5 seconds and carries it to the target position, locating itself with RFID tags, magnetic induction and wheel odometry to within 1 mm. Safety features include laser detection, safe torque off (STO) power protection and a 256-point matrix that detects pallet misalignment and rack tilt; a long-range Wi-Fi link and a central controller coordinate several shuttles at once. The standard model carries 1,500 kg, weighs 342 kg and measures 1,192 x 972 x 125 mm; a heavy-load model carries 2,000 kg. Both run at 1.2 m/s loaded and 1.6 m/s empty on 48 V lithium iron phosphate batteries, giving 8-10 hours per charge in normal conditions, and cold-store versions operate from -25 to 0 C. Craftsman lists manufacturing, FMCG, cold storage, pharmaceuticals and logistics as its main markets.
