DESCRIPTION

Armatrix Snake-Arm is an Industrial-Robot from Armatrix. It is built for Coating, Material-Handling, Painting. Key figures: 24 degrees of freedom.

The Armatrix Snake-Arm is a long, slender, hyper-redundant robotic arm designed to reach inside confined industrial spaces such as storage tanks, reactors, ship hulls and aircraft engines. It enters through a standard manhole, nozzle or access port, so the asset does not have to be dismantled and no scaffolding or human entry is needed. The arm body is purely mechanical, made of links, joints and cables. All motors, electronics and compute sit in a separate actuator box outside the workspace, which the maker says makes the arm suitable for explosive, flooded, irradiated and extreme-temperature environments. Control uses reinforcement learning across 24 degrees of freedom: the operator sets a goal and the arm plans its own path through the internal geometry, with digital-twin simulation and real-time path planning. The platform targets a reach of 3 to 5 m with a cross-section of 50 to 150 mm. Swappable end-effectors turn one deployment into an inspection camera, a spray-coating nozzle or an AI-guided welding torch. Armatrix completed a 1.5 m prototype in 2024 and a 3 m MVP arm in November 2025, and is moving towards pilot deployments in shipbuilding, oil and gas, nuclear energy and aerospace.

FEATURES

  • Snake-like (continuum, hyper-redundant) robotic arm
  • Reach length 3-5 m (target platform)
  • Cross-section diameter 50-150 mm
  • 24-DoF control using reinforcement learning (ET reports over 22 DoF for the 3 m arm)
  • AI-powered navigation with real-time adaptation to complex workspaces
  • Real-time path planning and digital-twin simulation
  • Operator specifies the goal
  • the arm navigates internal geometry adaptively
  • External actuation: no motors or electronics inside the arm body
  • Arm body is purely mechanical (links, joints and cables)
  • actuator box can be isolated
  • Designed for explosive, flooded, irradiated and extreme-temperature environments
  • Enters through existing manholes, nozzles and access ports
  • no asset disassembly, scaffolding or excavation
  • Can pass through several access points at different angles (per the CEO in ET)
  • Modular end-effector: inspection camera with high-resolution visual feed
  • Modular end-effector: spray nozzle for uniform coating with controlled pressure
  • Modular end-effector: welding torch with AI guidance and seam tracking
  • Development milestones: Prototype 3 (1.5 m) Nov 2024
  • MVP 01 (3 m) Nov 2025
