DESCRIPTION

ABLE Exoskeleton is a Medical-Robots from ABLE Human Motion. It is built for Medical-Assistance, Rehabilitation, Clinical gait rehabilitation (spinal cord injury, MS). Key figures: 17 kg, 4 degrees of freedom, released 2024.

The ABLE Exoskeleton is ABLE Human Motion's hip-knee powered lower-limb exoskeleton for clinical gait rehabilitation. It actively assists people with mobility impairments to stand up, walk, turn and sit down, and is indicated for spinal cord injury at levels C5 to L5 (with sufficient elbow-extensor strength), multiple sclerosis up to EDSS 8.5 and neuromuscular diseases that impair gait. At 17 kg, the company calls it the lightest adjustable hip-knee powered exoskeleton on the European market; four patented backdrivable actuators at the hips and knees produce a natural, physiological gait pattern, with assistance adjustable independently and asymmetrically for each joint and gait phase. Size adjusts by hand in under 30 seconds with pinlocks and telescopic parts to fit users 150-190 cm tall and up to 100 kg, and patients can transfer in from a wheelchair using a raised 'yoga leg' or have it fitted from behind, then fasten magnetic textile straps one-handed - donning takes under 6 minutes. Steps can be triggered by the therapist with two buttons on the back, by the patient shifting the centre of mass, or dynamically by moving the pelvis, and a wireless remote lets advanced users control sit-stand-walk transitions and turning assistance themselves. An optional upper-trunk module adds shoulder-strap support, and the cloud-based ABLE Care app records quantitative therapy data. The device received the CE mark as a medical device in 2024 and is sold to hospitals and rehabilitation centres in the EU.
