The Kinova Gen3 is an ultra-lightweight research arm in a 6-axis configuration, reaching 891 mm and carrying 4 kg continuously at mid-range while weighing only 7.2 kg itself. Kinova quotes setup in under thirty minutes and designs the arm to be moved between teams, projects and environments rather than bolted down once. Its defining trait is that everything is on board. The controller is embedded, so there is no external box and no cable management, which together with a 36 W average draw and the payload-to-weight ratio makes it a common choice for mobile manipulation on wheels or tracks. Every joint rotates infinitely, the smart actuators carry integrated torque sensors, and low-level control runs a 1 kHz closed loop - enough to support dynamic grasping, dexterous assembly, haptics and learning-based work rather than only scripted motion. A 2D/3D vision module is optional. All Kinova arms run the KINOVA KORTEX API, with support for ROS and ROS 2, MATLAB, C++ and Python, and a browser-based web app for setup and teaching.
