Torobo-kun was Tokyo Robotics' 2020 humanoid for robotics research, and a predecessor of the current Torobo. It is an upper body: 6-axis dual arms, a 2-axis waist and a 2-axis neck, with torque sensors on every axis and joint torque control throughout. That sensing is the point. A robot that measures torque at each joint can be pushed, can stop safely on contact, and can control the force it applies rather than just its position — the basis of the contact-rich research the company builds for. An optional head interface added facial expressions, intended to make interaction with people easier in human-robot interaction studies. It has since been replaced by the current Torobo line.
