Ruyi 1.0 is EULON's powered ankle orthosis for people who cannot lift the front of the foot — foot drop and foot inversion after stroke or nerve injury. A gait-recognition algorithm works out when in the stride dorsiflexion is needed and drives the ankle through it, so the toes clear the ground instead of catching. The device weighs about 2 kg, carries a 3,350 mAh battery and produces up to 200 N of assistive force, working through a dorsiflexion range of 25 degrees and a plantarflexion range of 35 degrees, each to a tolerance of 2.5 degrees. EULON's emphasis is on it needing no training: the intelligent control system means the wearer can use it straight after start-up. Multi-type sensors fuse into a real-time picture of the gait, the assistance strength and timing are adjustable to the wearer's actual condition, and the visual data interface plots gait curves before and after assistance so a therapist can see what the training changed.
