TV Asahi reports that Mitsubishi Motors will jointly develop a real factory humanoid with University of Tokyo spinout Highlanders and put the robots to work on its production lines. The automaker wants the machines to learn shop-floor know-how so they can raise productivity and ease Japan’s labor shortage, with mass production targeted at about 1,000 units a month at Mitsubishi’s Kyoto plant next year. The segment frames the tie-up as Japan’s first automaker–humanoid developer push toward volume manufacturing, aimed at catching U.S. and Chinese rivals. After the announcement, Mitsubishi Motors shares jumped more than 9%.
