Oregon State University robot sets Guinness record for fastest 100-meter run by a bipedal robot

Jul 20, 2026
This is Cassie the robot. Cassie set a Guinness World Record for fastest 100-meters run by a bipedal robot. The robot clocked 24.73 seconds.
Usain Bolt holds the human record for the 100-meter run, clocking 9.58 seconds in 2009 Olympics. Needless to say, Bolt won a gold medal for it.
Cassie has knees that bend like an ostrich’s and operates with no cameras or external sensors.
The robot was invented at OSU’s College of Engineering by OSU spinout company Agility Robotics.
