Humanoid Robot Executes Ultra-Remote Power Grid Inspections
A consortium including Leju Robotics, China Southern Power Grid, and China Mobile has unveiled the industry's first humanoid robot application for power grid inspection. The "Kuavo" robot acts as a remote engineer's "steel avatar," precisely executing high-voltage maintenance and inspection tasks in hazardous zones.
The system is powered by a 5G-A driven "Edge-Terminal-Cloud" collaborative architecture, enabling ultra-low latency remote control and 20Mbps real-time HD vision streaming. Kuavo successfully completed a 1,200 km ultra-distance operation test from Beijing to Shanghai with seamless execution. This efficiency boost led to an 84% improvement in inspection efficiency and enabled fully unmanned patrols in 10kV–110kV areas.
Standing 1.66 meters tall with over 40 degrees of freedom, Kuavo functions as the system's "hands, feet, and eyes," performing detailed operations like 110kV control cabinet manipulation. The 5G-A edge nodes act as the system's "super nerve," ensuring millisecond-level command response and 1:1 precise mapping of mechanical arms to remote operator input.
This solution provides a replicable framework that substantially reduces human reliance on high-risk zones, with potential expansion into special missions like emergency rescue and chemical operations. Partners confirm they will continue exploring the technological breakthroughs and commercialization of 5G-A humanoid robots.
