DESCRIPTION
XPLORER is a Mobile-Robots from Rovula. It is built for Data Collection, Surveying, Inspection.
XPLORER is Rovula's pipeline-inspection-class autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), built to take over subsea pipeline inspections that are normally flown by remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Rovula says it can perform any pipeline inspection mission currently done by ROVs about twice as fast, and because it does not need a DP II dynamic-positioning support vessel it cuts both cost and emissions. An in-house navigation algorithm tracks pipelines automatically, using data from a multibeam profiler and an imaging sonar to work out the pipe's position and direction. The vehicle carries the sensors a pipeline survey needs - image and video recording, free-span detection, electric field gradient measurement and a cathodic-protection (CP) stab - and operators plan missions and watch the survey through a web application linked to the AUV by acoustic communication. Rovula is a daughter company of ARV, the technology venture builder of Thai oil and gas producer PTTEP, and the XPLORER is its flagship product for subsea inspection, repair and maintenance.
