DESCRIPTION

Ozobot is a Consumer-Robot from Ozobot. It is built for Education, Teaching coding with colour codes and block programming. Key figures: 0 kg, 60 min runtime, released 2014.

Ozobot is a family of tiny two-wheeled coding robots for schools, made by the California company of the same name. Each robot follows lines drawn with markers or shown on a tablet and reads sequences of coloured dashes - Color Codes - with optical sensors underneath, so children can program it on paper before moving on to block coding in OzoBlockly and, on newer models, Python. The first Ozobot, about 2.5 cm across, launched at CES in January 2014. Ozobot Evo followed in September 2016 with Bluetooth, proximity sensors, LEDs and a speaker; Bit+ (November 2022) doubled the original Bit's battery life and added Arduino support, and Ari is the newest model. Evo measures 33.5 x 33.0 mm, weighs about 1 oz (28 g), runs about 60 minutes on a 140 mAh battery and recharges in about an hour by micro-USB or a wireless cradle. A randomised trial in 40 primary schools in Basra, Iraq (2022-23) used Ozobots with paper-based colour codes to teach Grade 4 pupils computer science; the paper does not say which model.
