DESCRIPTION

Sau Wu, whose name means 'to guard' was Hong Kong's first 5G outdoor disinfection robot, and being built for outdoors is what distinguishes it from the indoor machines that proliferated during the pandemic. Tough wheels take it across mixed terrain including upslope platforms and wooden decking, and it is engineered to adapt to varying site conditions. It sprays continuously with several spraying modes, runs automatically or under manual control, and can be mapped and scheduled to disinfect specific paths at specific times. A 360-degree camera provides 5G livestreamed surveillance while it works. It also waters plants — a genuinely practical second use for a machine that already carries a tank, a pump and a route plan, and one that keeps it earning its keep in parks and public spaces outside an outbreak. Although optimised for outdoors it also works in large indoor areas.
