DESCRIPTION

MMI Symani Surgical System is a Medical-Robots from Medical Microinstruments (MMI). It is built for Medical-Assistance, Surgery, Lymphedema surgery, reconstructive microsurgery, nerve and vessel repair. Key figures: 7 degrees of freedom, released 2019.

The Symani Surgical System is MMI's teleoperated robot for open microsurgery and supermicrosurgery, built for procedures on vessels, lymphatics and nerves too small for conventional surgical robots. The surgeon sits at an open console and moves handheld controllers while the robot's arms drive NanoWrist micro-instruments, which MMI calls the world's smallest wristed instruments for robotic microsurgery, with motion scaling of 7x to 20x and tremor filtration so sutures down to 12-0 can be placed on vessels under 1 mm. Symani is used for lymphovenous bypass and lymph node transfer in lymphedema, microsurgical breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction and trauma repair. MMI reports 100% first-attempt patency in 0.2 mm vessels against 80% by hand, and about 50 installed systems with some 3,500 procedures worldwide. It received the CE mark in 2019 and FDA de novo authorisation in 2024, and is manufactured in Pisa, Italy.
