DESCRIPTION
Joey is a commissioned research instrument as much as a product: Roborn built it for The Education University of Hong Kong, and it is being used across more than forty kindergartens and primary schools between 2024 and 2026. Its target is young English learners, and the design follows the pedagogy rather than the hardware. Natural language processing, speech-to-text and English speech recognition with visual feedback let a child speak and immediately see how they were understood, and AI-supported story re-telling turns that into a task worth doing. Roborn frames the goal as social communication — building rapport and encouraging creative expression — rather than drilling vocabulary.
