Ekobot WEAI is an autonomous, battery-electric weeding robot for row vegetables such as onions, beetroot and carrots. An AI vision system tells crop from weed in real time and mechanical finger weeders remove the weeds in and between the rows, with no herbicide; each weeder can take out up to five weeds a second. It works 5 to 8 rows at a time at about 1 km/h, navigates by RTK GPS and is protected by emergency stops, bumpers and cameras. The robot weighs about 1,700 kg, runs 8 to 12 hours a day on one charge, with batteries swapped by hand twice a day, and covers up to 10 hectares. The Ekobot+ decision-support layer detects crop status and anomalies from the images. A later version replaced the original chassis with suspended axles and level control for onion beds 1.5 to 3.2 m wide and deep spray tracks. Dutch machinery group Homburg, the WEAI's importer, acquired Ekobot in 2024.
