DESCRIPTION

Double 3 is a Mobile-Robots from Double Robotics. It is built for Others, Helping, Telepresence for remote workers and students. Key figures: 240 min runtime, price $4,499–$5,098.

Double 3 is Double Robotics' self-driving, two-wheeled videoconferencing robot that gives remote workers and students a physical presence in hybrid offices and classrooms. Two stereovision depth sensors (Intel RealSense D430), five ultrasonic range finders, wheel encoders and an IMU let it understand where it is safe to drive and steer around obstacles, so untrained drivers can use it without bumping into walls or people. With Click-to-Drive the driver clicks anywhere on the floor and the robot drives there, while a Mixed Reality view overlays 3D markers for drivable areas, obstacles and the charging dock on the live video; assisted driving correction helps through hallways and narrow doors. Its integrated head carries two 13-megapixel cameras - a super-wide and a super-zoom lens - in a unified pan-tilt-zoom module that physically tilts to read papers on a desk or a whiteboard across the room, with 30 fps video and a night-vision mode, six beamforming microphones, an 8 W speaker and a 9.7-inch touchscreen, and its height adjusts remotely from 47 to 60 inches. An NVIDIA Jetson TX2 runs the robot, which connects over dual-band Wi-Fi, runs about 4 hours per charge with a 2-hour recharge, and has user-replaceable silicone trim in five colours. Drivers use Chrome, Firefox or Safari on Mac or Windows, or iPad, iPhone or Android, over WebRTC with 128-bit AES encryption; Fleet Management, a developer API and USB 3.1 expansion ports support larger deployments. The standard set, including the charging dock and a one-year warranty, is listed at US$4,499 with no recurring fees.
