Butler Gold Pro is an autonomous feed-pushing robot sold by BouMatic that drives along the feed alley and moves feed back towards the feed fence so cows can always reach it. Instead of a pressing shield, it uses a patented rotating auger that turns the feed over gently without compacting it, keeping it fresh and encouraging cows to eat, which BouMatic says can raise milk yield by up to 1 litre per cow per day and save up to 70% of feed-pushing labour. The robot is operated from a 10-inch multi-touch display or remotely from a PC, tablet or smartphone, receives software updates automatically and can be serviced by remote maintenance. It uses less than about 4 kWh a day with 100 cows and 14 runs on loose feed, can open and close barn doors itself, and can be fitted with a feed enhancer hopper that adds small amounts of up to two concentrates or minerals per pen on each run.
