Samsung Electronics to Launch Dedicated Humanoid Robotics Division

Samsung Electronics is restructuring its robotics work into a single dedicated organization, potentially elevated to its own business division under the working name "HX," for Humanoid Experience. The move folds together the Future Robotics Office, Samsung Research's robotics unit, and Global Technology Research under the Device eXperience division, with a new division head expected to be named to succeed Oh Joon-ho.

Samsung says it plans to begin applying its own robotics on its production lines as early as the second half of 2026, using a two-track approach that combines internal development with external partnerships, and has left the door open to acquisitions if internal development falls short of its timeline. The company is emphasizing robots capable of complex manipulation and precision tasks, trained on data pulled from real manufacturing environments rather than simulation alone.

Samsung already holds a 35 percent stake in Rainbow Robotics and has separately reported piloting Rainbow's RB-Y1 mobile robot at Coupang's fulfillment center and supplying humanoid units to Toyota. Consolidating internal robotics work into one division with its own leadership signals Samsung intends to run in-house humanoid development in parallel with the Rainbow Robotics investment, not to simply outsource the category to its portfolio company. For competitors and suppliers, that means Samsung is a candidate to become both a customer and a competitor in the same market segment over the next 12 to 18 months.
