The ExR-1 is ExRobotics' first robot, developed in 2017: a cost-effective, remotely operated platform certified to IECEx and ATEX Zone 1 (II 2 G Ex db eb ib mb qb IIB T4 Gb) for -20 to +50 C, originally designed to help operators investigate potentially hazardous situations. With ExRobotics' patented induction charging and docking station it can live on unmanned facilities, and a simple line-following autonomy was added at customers' request, making it a low-cost way to detect fugitive emissions. The tracked robot measures 950 x 690 x 560 mm and weighs 73 kg, drives over roads, slabs, pebbles, metal gratings and grass in light snow, hail and rain, climbs 20 cm ledges and 35-degree slopes, and has a 2 km range, a battery life of 90 minutes to 7 hours depending on use and a 4.5-hour charge. It carries three cameras in one module, a microphone and 4G/LTE, with options such as point gas and VOC detectors, a thermal camera, an infrared leak-detection camera and tag-based inspection; ExRobotics configured it as First Responder, Emissions Detector and Co-Operator versions.
