BESCHREIBUNG
Forge is Roam Robotics' powered robotic knee brace: a wearable exoskeleton that adds torque at the knee to augment strength and endurance and reduce pain and potential injury. Rather than electric motors, it generates torque by forcing air through lightweight, compliant air actuators, adding power without the weight or bulk of conventional exoskeletons and keeping a full range of motion. It is a modular system. The knee braces use ruggedised 3D-printed aluminium actuators with a reduced profile and weight and improved sizing and fit, built from high-strength polymers, carbon fibre and 3D-printed metals tough enough for mission environments. They are driven by a backpack power pack with a rechargeable MIL-STD battery, adjustable power and ergonomic back support, and a smart power algorithm that gives assistance when the wearer needs it and stays out of the way when they don't. The fit is designed to suit anyone and stay comfortable all day. Roam describes Forge as dual-use technology, ruggedised for the military but flexible enough for commercial applications, and it is being tested for reducing pain and increasing mobility in patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis. Roam's reported results: 2x squat reps at 75 percent of bodyweight, 2x deadlift reps at 150 percent of bodyweight, 3.5x maximum wall-sit time holding 55 lb, 30 percent less exertion pushing a 3,000 lb pallet, and 50 percent less knee pain.
