BESCHREIBUNG
Canadarm2 is the International Space Station's main robotic arm — the one that reaches out and grabs arriving cargo ships before they dock, a manoeuvre called berthing that the station has depended on for two decades. It is 57.7 feet long, about 17.6 m, and weighs 3,300 pounds, roughly 1,497 kg, with seven degrees of freedom. Each end carries an identical hand, a Latching End Effector, so either end can be the base: the arm grips a fixture, releases the other end and moves itself across the station end over end. Formally the Space Station Remote Manipulator System, it was installed on 22 April 2001 and forms the core of the Mobile Servicing System along with Dextre and the Mobile Base System. It is operated from inside the station and from the ground, and it positions astronauts during spacewalks as well as moving hardware.
