BESCHREIBUNG
Carbonhand is Bioservo's grip-strengthening glove - a soft, powered hand orthosis for people with weakened grip or impaired hand function caused by spinal cord injury, stroke, ALS, MS, myositis, fractures, nerve or brachial plexus injuries, or rheumatic disease and osteoarthritis. Pressure sensors on each finger and in the palm detect when the user starts a grip, and microprocessor-controlled motors pulling on artificial tendons add force: the harder the user grips, the more Carbonhand adds, up to 20 N per finger. It helps with everyday tasks such as eating, cooking, buttoning a shirt or holding a stair rail, at home, at work or in rehabilitation. The three-finger glove connects by cable to a compact power unit worn on the back or waist or mounted on a wheelchair. A wrist control pad switches between three programmable support profiles - set up in the Bioservo app over Bluetooth - and activates a lock assist for stabilisation. Gloves come in five sizes for left and right hands. The new Carbonhand (type C1), introduced in April 2025, can be worn on the middle and ring or the index and middle fingers, calibrates finger length from the glove itself, adds a one-step arm strap and an adjustable palm sensor for users with limited finger mobility. Per the C1 user manual, the system (power pack, glove and carry solution) weighs 1,060 g and its 8.2 V 24 Wh Li-ion battery lasts about 8 hours; it is rated IP22 for use from -5 to +40 C, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1. Clinical studies with more than 360 participants reported easier handling of everyday objects and a steadier, stronger grip.
