HyQ (Hydraulically actuated Quadruped) is IIT's fully torque-controlled hydraulic quadruped research platform for versatile rough-terrain locomotion, compliance, and energy-efficient gaits — the foundation of the HyQ robot series since ~2007–2011.

- 8 hydraulic cylinders (hip/knee flexion-extension) + 4 rotary hip abduction/adduction actuators
- Peak cylinder torque ~181 Nm and rotary actuator ~120 Nm at 200 bar
- Onboard joint position/torque sensing, IMU, hydraulic pressure sensing, stereo vision
- Lab treadmill and outdoor rough-terrain testing since 2011
