DESCRIPTION
TX SCARA is an Industrial-Robot from Telexistence. It is built for Pick-and-place, Inventory, Remote. Key figures: released 2021.
TX SCARA is Telexistence's beverage-restocking robot for convenience stores. It is a SCARA (Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm) robot that Telexistence designed itself, with a joint layout and link lengths chosen for the cramped walk-in cooler behind a store's drinks cases, so it can be installed without changing an existing backroom. It handles every can size and PET bottles up to 2 litres, and restocks about 1,000 drinks a day, 24 hours a day, so staff can stay on the shop floor. It runs on Telexistence's own AI system, GORDON, which scans the shelves to see what is missing, works out where to grip each drink and plans the path to place it, and learns from the store's sales data to time its restocking around daily and seasonal demand. On the robot, NVIDIA Jetson TX2 and Jetson AGX Xavier modules run the image recognition, while GORDON runs on an NVIDIA DGX Station and stock and sales data sit on Microsoft Azure. When a pick fails, the robot switches to Telexistence mode and a remote operator wearing a VR headset finishes the job over the internet. Telexistence unveiled TX SCARA at the FamilyMart METI store in November 2021 and began mass production and installation in about 300 FamilyMart stores in August 2022. In 2025 Rest of World reported that Telexistence's restocking robots in FamilyMart and Lawson stores are backed up by remote operators in Manila, who step in on about 4% of picks.
