DESCRIPTION
RoboTome RTM 30 is an Industrial-Robot from Morphle Labs. It is built for Analysis, General-Automation, Inspection. Key figures: 600 kg.
RoboTome RTM 30 is a robotic microtome from Morphle Labs that automates the cutting of thin tissue sections from paraffin-embedded biopsy blocks and places them on glass slides, a step in histopathology that is normally done by hand by histotechnologists. Up to 30 blocks are loaded per batch. An operator first sets the facing depth for each block, cycling digitally through blocks on several machines; the robot then takes over and sections autonomously, using protocol data linked to each block's barcode. Sections are cut at a consistent 4 um, carried in a water-based transport and picked up onto slides, then scanned at high resolution so artefacts are caught before the block is changed. The blade is chilled continuously and robotically shifted or switched when the system detects wear, and the block surface is cooled under time and temperature control so it does not chip. Each unit produces about 100 slides per hour with a 30-45 minute cycle, and one operator can run five units digitally. The machine stands 5.5 ft (about 1.68 m) tall on a 4.8 x 2.5 ft base and weighs 600 kg. Block-to-slide barcode matching, bi-directional LIMS integration and a remote mode, in which a distant histotechnologist faces and sections blocks over the network with live cameras, are included.
