Moxie

DESCRIPTION

Moxie is a Service-Robots from Embodied. It is built for Others, Helping, Social-emotional learning companion for children. Key figures: released 2020.

Moxie is the companion robot that Embodied, Inc. launched in 2020 to support social, emotional and cognitive development in children aged 5-10 through play-based learning. Built on Embodied's SocialX AI platform, it uses microphones, a camera and other sensors with speech recognition, machine vision and natural language processing to hold open conversations, read facial expressions and respond with empathy through its animated face and moving arms. The child acts as a mentor to Moxie, a robot on a mission to learn how to be a good friend to humans, and helps it complete missions that practise communication, listening, turn-taking and other relationship skills. Activities designed with child-development experts include breathing exercises and meditations for emotion regulation, positive affirmations, reading together with comprehension questions, stories about social-emotional themes, drawing, dancing and creative play, paced to discourage binging. A parent app with COPPA-certified consent (through PRIVO), a kids' portal and monthly mission packs came with a subscription; in 2021 Embodied sold Moxie for US$1,499 (list US$1,699) with a year of subscription included. After Embodied shut down in late 2024 Moxie Robots, Inc. took over the robot, but it says Moxie is being sunset and is no longer for sale, with existing robots able to run on the open-source OpenMoxie after its servers close on 30 June 2026.
