DESCRIPTION
KalArm is a Medical-Robots from Makers Hive. It is built for Material-Handling, Rehabilitation, Helping. Key figures: 8 kg payload.
KalArm is a myoelectric bionic hand from Makers Hive for people with below-elbow upper-limb amputations. It was designed and developed in Hyderabad as a lower-cost Indian alternative to imported bionic hands, and is named after Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. EMG sensors embedded in a forearm socket that is made for each user read the electrical signals of the muscles in the residual limb, and motorised fingers turn those signals into grips. The hand offers 18 pre-defined grip patterns plus 6 grips the user can define. The shell is 3D printed and the outer panels can be customised in colour and finish. The hand can lift up to 8 kg and runs on a rechargeable 2,850 mAh battery. It pairs over Bluetooth with the KalAssist app for Android and iOS, which shows battery charge, monitors the sensors and motors and delivers over-the-air firmware updates. Makers Hive says two versions of the hand have been built and features user testimonials on its site.
