DESCRIPTION

Digital Teammate is a Mobile-Robots from Badger Technologies. It is built for Inspection, Inventory, Monitoring. Key figures: 960 min runtime.

Badger Technologies' retail robot, which the company calls its Digital Teammate, is an autonomous scanning robot for grocery and other stores, designed and built in Nicholasville, Kentucky by Badger, a product division of Jabil. It roams the store among shoppers, scanning shelves for out-of-stocks, wrong price tags and planogram drift, and scanning the floor for spills and debris, then sends the data to Badger's cloud analytics so associates get prioritised alerts and tasks on dashboards, the PA and a mobile app. Its best-known deployment is 'Marty', the version with large googly eyes that Ahold Delhaize's Stop & Shop and Giant banners rolled out to about 500 stores from January 2019, making it one of the most widely deployed retail robots in the West. The current design carries product- and floor-scanning cameras with LED shelf lighting, two depth cameras, a rotating LiDAR, a human-detection camera, an upward-facing top-stock camera and RFID antennas that can read expiry data, plus a display for retail media and a barcode reader. A lithium battery gives about 16 hours per charge, and the robot returns to its charging station after each cycle. The firmware is ROS-based and upgradeable, and Badger delivers the robot as a service, including integration with POS, ordering and planogram systems, installation and maintenance. The same platform is sold for security patrols as PatrolBot.
