DESCRIPTION
Cranebot is an Industrial-Robot from Jaso Industrial. It is built for Assembly, Heavy-Lifting, Material-Handling. Key figures: 500 kg payload, 6 degrees of freedom.
Cranebot is a flexible robotic crane developed and patented by JASO Industrial Cranes with the Tecnalia research centre. It combines an industrial overhead crane with cable-driven parallel robotics: a platform hung from eight cables, each run by a motorised, encoder-controlled winch through pulleys from different directions, so the cable lengths can be synchronised to control all three translations and three rotations of the load. The crane hoist carries almost all of the weight while the cable robot steers it, holding the part without swinging and positioning large, heavy pieces to about +/-2 mm. Columns sit in the corners, leaving the floor free, and the system can be fixed to a structure or mounted on a double-girder crane. A B&R industrial controller programs trajectories in a CNC module or point by point and runs in automatic or remote-controlled manual mode, with collision control and error detection; the platform can carry tools or another robot. The first application was automated polishing of wind-turbine blades, and JASO targets handling, assembly, painting, welding, inspection and maintenance of large parts; the current prototype handles loads of up to 500 kg.
