Bossa Nova shelf-scanning robot

DESCRIPTION
Bossa Nova shelf-scanning robot is a Mobile-Robots from Bossa Nova Robotics. It is built for Inventory, Monitoring, Scanning.
Bossa Nova Robotics' shelf-scanning robot was an autonomous store robot that drove supermarket aisles photographing shelves to find out-of-stock items, missed price changes and missing shelf tags. About six feet tall with no arms, it carried a mast of cameras that scanned shelves up to 8 feet high, combined RGB photos with point-cloud imaging and LiDAR, moved on four wheels at about 20 cm a second, and sent its data over WiFi with LTE as backup. Walmart was its main customer: a 50-robot deal in 2017 grew to 350 stores in 2019, and in January 2020 the two companies announced another 650 stores. The robots scanned aisles about three times a day. In November 2019 Bossa Nova launched a slimmer next-generation model, Bossa Nova 2020, with a new 2D and 3D camera system. Walmart ended the contract in November 2020, when the robots were in about 500 stores, after finding that staff walking the aisles could gather much of the same information. Bossa Nova, a 2005 Carnegie Mellon spin-off, then cut half its staff and its UK unit entered administration in January 2021.
