xChangeParcel is Tompkins Robotics' post-sort parcel transport system: autonomous mobile robots that each carry a 15,300 cubic-inch bin and up to 50 kg (110 lb) automatically swap full containers for empty ones at the exits of a sorter and take completed orders to shipping. It works with virtually any sorter, including loop and linear sorters and Tompkins' own tSort. A bin is sent when it reaches a parcel count, cube or weight threshold, or when a full-bin sensor triggers. Robots deliver full bins to shipping or to a tilter, which empties a bin into a shipping bag in under 14 seconds, then return empty bins to the queue at the sorter. Routes are optimized in real time with WMS or ERP integration, and because the robots replace downstream conveyors the system can be deployed in weeks and scaled by adding robots.
